Tea Time in the City.
18 MarI really have no idea about how this blogging business works. My past blogs were simply assignments for an art class I was taking a while back. So, now Im going to attempt to interest a few people with an assortment of things I find nice, or special. I hope its not too boring. I will start tomorrow…. well here is something now…. Check out this link to the Whole leaf in Ocean Beach. This place is great! I’ve only been a couple times but so far while I was there I received healing from a Tibetan monk, made ballon hats with a former clown, and had a pretty legitimate conversation with vagabond…. all this while sipping from the finest tea on earth! =) http://www.teasandiego.com/
Judith Hoffman
12 MayI chose Judith Hoffman’s art initially because I love dinosaurs, especially the T-rex. Then the deeper I looked into her art I noticed that she had a an extra ordinarily deep way of thinking about life. She looks as life as fleeting the same way I do. Her art book on dinosaurs represents extinction of a species and reflects her own extinction. Hoffman is growing older in age, her life is soon coming to an end and she is well aware of how fragile life is. I appreciate this mind frame and I appreciate her art. It is beautiful as well as thought provoaking.
Kent Manske
12 MaySoul searching drives Manske’s book art process. Thoughts, ideas and observations is the nature of the inspiration behind his art. Manske is an existentialist who uses his art to explore his own faith and come closer to what he believes life is all about. His work is complicated yet simple encompassing all of his originality into something tangible all can see and experience. His works are like conscious maps which people can look on to discover all that is in his mind. Manske uses metaphoric lines and shapes that lead the eye to new found figures which bring deeper meaning to all he represents in his art.
Neville Brody
12 MayNeville Brody is a British graphic artist who has been working on graphic art since the 1980′s his work has been published in over 120,000 different magazines and books. In 1988 Brody published the first of his two monographs , which became the world’s best selling graphic design book. An accompanying exhibition of his work at the Victoria and Albert Museum attracted over 40,000 visitors. I think it is interesting to see the work of a graphic artist from a time when graphic art was only used in the most basic of forms because of how new the computer was. It is also interesting to see how his style is still so current. Just when you think there is an original artist you are soon forced to reconsider how nothing is really new under the sun. Art evolves over time but everything is still connected to the past and other art forms.
